Get Loose and Warm Up before Letting go with those Golf Irons and Golf Fairway Woods by Callum Belanger Williams
Stand for a while near the first tee of any golf club at a weekend and you will witness scores of golfers arriving late and proceeding to hit bad shots. If all golfers built a little more time into their routine for a pre-game warm up on the range with their golf irons or golf fairway woods they would be amazed by how much their game would improve.
At the professional level you will never see a player head straight to the first tee without a substantial warm up on the practice range and putting green. The majority of the clubs are put through their paces and a number of different shots rehearsed. All of this, of course, to get the player physically loose and his mind ready to hit-the-ground-running from the very first tee shot. Professional players just cannot afford to throw shots away in the early opening holes; and yet as amateur golfers the high majority of us seem to be happy to loosen up as we play and to drop shots as a result.
In order to get proficient at any sport there are processes you must adhere to, namely coaching or lessons, practice and preparation before participation. Follow these rules and with just a small amount of ability you will become proficient to a certain level. There is something unique about amateur golf however, that makes it really stand apart from most other sports. The majority of players are either happy with the standard of play they have achieved, so don’t practice or warm up, or they believe they are far better players than their general play suggests – and so they still don’t practice or warm.
If you are looking for some serious game improvement therefore, my strong recommendation would be to take the above processes onboard. Register for some coaching with your local PGA professional and then practice the techniques you learn until they become second nature. From there be sure you arrive at the course well in advance of any game to be able to prepare. Take a large basket of balls to the range and develop a warm up routine. Start by hitting a few practice pitch shots and from here work your way through the golf irons to the golf fairway woods and onto the Golf Driver. From here visit the practice bunkers, if available, and get used to the sand conditions you are likely to face on the course. And finally move to the putting green in order to get used to the pace ahead of having to hit what might be a crucial putt on the first green.
So, for an instant improvement in your golf performance start making time for a warm up. You will be staggered by the results!
